              The Mason  County Picnic Area is located approximately 2 ½ miles west of Pere Marquette Highway (also known as Old 31) on Chauvez Rd.  It may also be reached from Lakeshore Drive after turning east onto Chauvez and traveling about one half Mile.  This park is operated by the Mason County Parks and Recreation Commission and is open daily at 9 AM to 9 PM from Memorial Day weekend to October.  The park contains about 150 acres with a 350 person capacity pavilion, 40 picnic tables, modern restrooms, and new in 2024, PlayScape/Playground equipment.  The park is currently home of the Mason County Disc Golf Organization where there is a 72 goal disc golf course, the third largest in the world, that may be used by the public, access to the observation area overlooking the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant, and there is also a 210 step stairway leading to an overlook of the holding pond of the Storage Plant.
     
          The Picnic Pavilion is for rent during the summer for private use and information concerning that may be had by contacting the  Campground at 231-845-7609.  Fees for use of the pavilion are $100 per day and if it is cleaned after being used by the renters they are refunded $50.   The public is invited to use the facilities but they must observe the rules on the signs when the pavilion is in use.
