Mason County Register Launches Free Property Fraud Alert Service
Property owners can sign up online to monitor documents and receive notice of activity
(January 7, 2011) – The Mason County Register of Deeds Office is pleased to announce a new, free service to help protect citizens against property fraud. The new Property Fraud Alert Service (PFA) is an online subscription service which notifies individuals when transactions involving their property are recorded in the Mason County Register of Deeds Office. It provides people advanced notice of possible fraudulent activity involving their land records. This can include notice of fraudulent liens or mortgages.
Property owners can sign up by going to the Register of Deeds page at www.masoncounty.net. Signup takes only a few moments and requires only the person’s name and a phone number or an e-mail address. The system monitors the different document types and delivers an alert by e-mail or telephone if the user’s name appears on a document filed in the Mason county Register of Deeds Office.
According to Mason County Register of Deeds Diane Englebrecht, "while Property Fraud Alert does NOT prevent fraud from happening, it provides an early warning system for property owners to take appropriate actions should they determine possible fraudulent activity has taken place".
